Obituary

Obituary for Harry Addison Smith

Harry Addison Smith passed away on December 16, 2019 at Crestwood Center, Milford, NH after a brief illness. He was 89. He was born on May 30, 1930 in Leominster, MA, the son of Thomas Smith and Alice Jeffrey Smith. Harry was the devoted husband of his high school sweetheart, Helen Lancey Smith, who he was married to for 67 years. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York University and received a degree in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, a Master’s in business from Northeastern University and attended classes at Harvard University Extension. He worked for a number of years at American Cyanimide and Nashua Corporation before having a long career as a chemist with Polaroid in Cambridge, MA. Residing in homes in Nashua and Concord, MA, he was involved with youth ice hockey and baseball, an avid skier, nature, science and gardening enthusiast. He was a participating member of the Episcopal Church. Summers were enjoyed at Squam Lake, Chatham and later, winters in Florida. Harry owned and managed Shelburne Mt. along with Helen. In his retirement years, he and Helen had great fun buying furniture at estate sales and reselling them. He is survived by his wife, Helen, children, Lorna Stevens, Peter Trenholm Smith, Eric Smith and Marcia Smith. Grandchildren, John Stevens, Rachel Stevens-Ramsey and Nicholas Fortune. Great grandchildren, Berlin Stevens, Victoria Stevens, Austin Owens and Aubrey Ramsey. Also, many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: This gentle, peaceful and decent man will be laid to rest in the spring in a private ceremony at Maple Lane Cemetery, Stratham, NH near his grandson, Andrew Stevens, who predeceased him in 2003.
