Obituary for John G. Senter

John Garnet Senter, 87, of Nashua, died peacefully at Southern NH Medical Center, following a brief decline in his health.
John is the second son of Charles Langdon and Margaret Isbelle (Bishop) Senter. He was born at Boston City Hospital, Boston, Mass., Nov. 3, 1931.
He was the husband of Anne Meredith (Taylor) Senter, whom he married on February 6, 1965, they have shared over 52 years of marriage.
He graduated from Hollis High School, June 15, 1951. He spent that summer helping his brother Charles on the farm. In Aug.1951 he went to work for Nashua Plastics and later became Irwin Toy Inc. John left Irwin Toy and went to work for Brockway Plastics in Nashua, then went back to Irwin Toy. He went to work for Tech Inc. in Nashua, later moved to Merrimack, NH. as a crib man. When he was employed at Irwin Toy, he was for many years steward of his department for local No. 66 Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union A.F.L.C.I.O. and for several years Vice President of the local union.
John has been active in the Masonic Fraternity. He became a Master Mason at Ancient York Lodge, No, 89 at Nashua, N. H. He served the lodge as Senior and Junior Steward, Junior Deacon and Historian. He became a Sublime Prince of New Hampshire Consistory S.P.R.S. 32nd degree Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, N.M.J., U.S.A., Valley of Nashua, N.H. He is the Tyler of Aaron P. Hughes Lodge of Perfection, 14th degree, Oriental Council of Princes of Jerusalem, 16th degree, Saint George Chapter of Rose Croix, 18th degree all of Nashua, and the New Hampshire Consistory 32nd degree. He received the New Hampshire Consistory Award for Notable Service at Nashua, NH., April 27, 1981. He is a York Rite Mason, became a Mark Master Mason and was also a Past Master; Most Excellent Master, and Royal Arch Mason at Meridian Sun Chapter No. 9, Royal Arch Chapter at Nashua, NH. He was the Excellent High Priest of Meridian Sun Chapter No. 9 for several years. In 1997 he was commissioned by the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of NH. to be the Grand Representative to the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Jersey.
He received the Royal Master degree and the Select Master degree at Israel Hunt Council, No. 8, Royal and Select Masters at Nashua, NH. He was Thrice Illustrious Master, March 11, 1968 to March 10, 1970 and again March 11, 1974 to March 10, 1975. He portrayed the part of Hiram Abif part for many years in the two degrees. He received the Super Excellent Master degree, Nov. 13, 1965. He received the several awards, appointments and medals including: General Grand Council Cryptic Mason Medal, Grand Council of Cryptic Masonry in the State of NH. to be the Grand Representative to the Grand Council Cryptic Masonry of the State of Washington, Order of the Red Cross, Order of Malta and the Order of the Temple at St. George Commandery No. 9 at Nashua NH. and was Knighted by his Cousin Irving Morrison Senter and assisted by his son Arthur Irving Senter, both Past Commanders of Quincy Commandery No. 47 of Quincy, Mass. John was the warden for many years of St. George Commandery K.T. of Nashua, NH. He became a member of the Order of High Priesthood of NH and became a member of the Order of the Silver Trowel of NH. He became a Knight of York at Profile York Rite College No. 100. On Dec. 15, 1990 he became a Knight Mason at Scenic Council No. 37. He is a charter member of William Pitt Tavern Lodge, No. 1789 of Strawbery Banke, Portsmouth, NH.
He became a member of Veteran Freemasons of NH. He became a Noble of Bektash Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. of Concord, N.H. He is also a member of the former Indian Head Shrine Club of Nashua, NH. He became a member of the Sword of Bunker Hill, Gaspee Order No. 99 of Providence, RI. He became a member of Pilgrim Chapter No. 55 Order of Eastern Star of Nashua, N.H.
John, Anne and his mother became members of Naumkeag Grange No. 241 at Litchfield, N. H., June 21, 1966 and held membership until it was dissolved.
John has been very active in working on the Senter Family Genealogy and has spoken of it at Center Harbor and Londonderry Historical Societies. He is a member or has been of the Meredith, Hudson, Center Harbor, N. H. Historical Societies, N. H. Historical Society, The U. S. Capital Historical Society and New England Historic Genealogical Society. He was also a member for a time of the First New Hampshire Regt..
John considered himself very fortunate by having such a good wife and partner, children, parents, in laws and friends. He also considered himself to be fortunate because he was an American. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Charles Senter and a brother-in-law, Richard Johnson.
Besides his beloved wife, Anne, he is survived by his daughter Ruth Jean Szczypinski and her husband Raymond and his son, John Langdon Senter; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Johnson; his niece, Margaret Blair and her husband Larry his nephew, Charles Senter and his wife Marjorie; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

SERVICES: A Masonic Funeral Service will be held at the DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, One Lock St., Nashua on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM. A Celebration of John's Life will be held after the Masonic Funeral Service with a time for family and friends to share. John's wife and family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the Masonic Funeral Service. Interment prayers and burial will be private.
