Obituary for Nancy Margaret Cant (Cant)

Nancy Margaret Cant, 81, of Nashua, NH and formerly of Wood-Ridge, NJ, passed away at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH on Friday, October 5th, 2018 due to a sudden illness accompanied by a period of declining health.

Born in Jersey City, NJ on January 25, 1937, Nancy was the daughter of the late William and Anna Cant, who had immigrated to the US from Scotland. She grew up in Wood-Ridge, NJ where she spent almost her entire life. She graduated from Wood-Ridge High School and Montclair State College in NJ where she majored in mathematics. Nancy was a highly respected math teacher at Hackensack High School in NJ for over 40 years teaching Advanced Placement classes including Calculus. At one time she also was involved with being an advisor to the high school year book and the twirlers.

For many years, Nancy was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wood-Ridge. She was also an active member of Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron. In recent years Nancy enjoyed socializing with her friends in the Red Hats. She loved traveling and went on many trips all over the world, but especially loved going on trips to London with her friend, Dottie. Nancy also enjoyed spending every summer at her cottage in Ocean Park, Maine.

Members of her family include her sister, Jean Jaquith and husband, William, of Nashua, NH, along with her nieces Pamela Simonds and husband Todd, Heather Gallagher and husband, Michael, and her nephew, Scott Jaquith, all of Nashua. Nancy was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews and also loved spending time with their children, Allie and Kaylee Simonds, and Abigail and Alex Gallagher, all of whom she adored. Nancy always let everyone know how much they were loved and was very thoughtful and kind hearted. She also leaves one cousin, Linda Hornstra of McAfee, NJ and relatives in Scotland.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her nephew, David Jaquith. David's wife, Rebecca, survives him.

Nancy will be greatly missed and remembered for her caring personality, and her generosity towards others.

SERVICES: Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Davis Funeral Home in conjunction with the Kohler Funeral Home in Wood-Ridge, NJ. Services and burial will take place in NJ.
